The holiday season is here and what makes this my favorite time of year is being able to connect with family and friends. While we at the Sheriff’s Office have been busy this year we have also been very productive. I am especially excited about the upcoming opening of the new Stanton Correctional Facility in July of 2014. This construction project has brought several new jobs to the county and once completed will create even more good jobs. The Stanton Correctional Facility will help Solano County manage the influx of offenders we house in our facilities as a result of California’s Realignment legislation.
The Sheriff’s Office recently submitted a proposal to the state to compete for funding under Senate Bill 1022. The competition amongst counties across California for funding under this Senate Bill was fierce. Our team presented an outstanding proposal both in writing and during our oral presentation to state officials. On December 12th we were notified that our proposal was selected to receive a significant funding award.
We plan on building secure classroom and vocational structures that will provide the space necessary to deliver basic educational skills and job training to Solano County offenders. Our goal is to provide offenders training in local marketable job skills while reducing their recidivism rate.
This past year as Sheriff was exciting. I am meeting amazing people every day and constantly making new friends and associates. The courage and honor exhibited by my staff and the exceptional people we have contact with is incredible. I truly look forward to serving the residents of Solano County in the years of service ahead of me.
My holiday wish for each of you is that you have good health, have good friends and you can spend time with family. May you have a happy holiday season and an exciting and prosperous new year!
Thomas A. Ferrara, Sheriff/Coroner Solano County
